They play an essential role in disease prevention and public health and wellbeing methodical approach to public health nursing comprises analyzing a population’s health and health care needs in order to identify subpopulations, families, and individuals who would benefit from health promotion or who are at risk of sickness, injury, disability, or premature death.

Public health nurses work in communities, focusing on various areas to improve the overall health of the residents. Public health nurses can work in school districts, county or state health organisations, and correctional facilities, among other places. The public health nurse looks for areas of concern in the community and evaluates and develops plans for minimizing or resolving the problems. Infection control, health maintenance, health coaching, and home care visits for welfare and care are all available.
